If your car needs to be fixed, who do you go to first and why?

North Haven Liquor Stores to Open on Sunday

The governor signs into law the bill that would allow Sunday liquor sales, and some sellers say they will be open this weekend.

A new law allowing businesses to sell alcohol on Sunday, and on Monday holidays, is slated to go into effect this weekend. Gov. Dannel P. Malloy is poised to sign into law on Thursday a bill amending Connecticut’s Blue Laws, giving permittees the option of selling liquor and beer from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Sundays. The law, slated to go into effect immediately, also allows stores the option of selling on Memorial Day, Independence Day and Labor Day, and on Mondays following a Christmas or New Year's Day holiday that falls on a Sunday. Malloy signed the bill into law on Thursday at the Enfield Town Hall. After the law goes into effect the only state left to prohibit Sunday liquor sales will be Indiana. But some opponents have argued that the…

You could even get a burger made from turkey meat or bison, or a veggie one, too. When it comes down to it, you could put just about anything on a burger. And there are some great restaurants serving some incredible burgers right here in North Haven. In this week's Readers' Choice contest, we want to know…

Wow, slim pickins'. I can't, in good conscience, vote for a good burger in No. Haven. You'd have to go to Hamden or New Haven for that.   more ›

Local Chatter on CT Matters: North Haven

Minimum Wage Hike Passes Connecticut House

Connecticut’s minimum wage could rise a quarter a year for the next two years to $8.75. A new study says that minimum wage increases do not target poor people effectively.

The Connecticut House of Representatives approved raising the minimum wage from $8.25 to $8.75 in the next two years. The vote passed by an 88-62 margin and the bill’s fate is now up to the Senate. According to the Hartford Courant, the proposal was pushed by House Speaker – and U.S. Congress candidate - Chris Donovan. He reportedly backed a more aggressive bill, which would have raised minimum wage to $9.75 in two years and then tied future increases to inflation.  Economists and politicians have never reached a consensus on the merits of raising the minimum wage and the potential effects on employment numbers. A new study from the University of Georgia states that raising the minimum wage doesn’t help poor people. From the study’s …
