With low turnout, voters still preferred Rick Santorum, who was no longer in the race, to Newt Gingrich.
Mitt Romney was the favorite in Connecticut with 68 percent of the vote for the Republican presidential primary. He performed similarly in North Haven, with 66 percent of the 424 votes cast. Ron Paul finished second with 17 percent. Rick Santorum who dropped out of the race earlier this month, still managed to beat Newt Gingrich with 9 percent compared to 6 percent. Seven voters checked off “uncommitted” at the polling place. “I’m not putting words in anyone’s mouth and this based on conversations we heard from people, I think that some people just assumed the race had already been won so they just weren’t coming out,” said Laurie Brangi, the Republican Registrar of Voters for North Haven.

The current ‘war between women’ pitting Hilary Rosen against Ann Romney is deflecting attention from the true ‘war ON women’ and distracting us from the real question—Who are we voting for?
[Editor's Note: Please keep an eye out later this week for "Patch Back," a new feature from Lisa Bigelow that will serve as response piece to certain installments of Heather's "Patch In."] The question isn’t whether Ann Romney ever ‘worked’ a day in her whole life, but: Does her husband Mitt truly give a rat’s ass about anyone—especially women—in the 99 percent? This made-up battle between working moms and stay-at-home-moms is causing people of every gender to lose focus on more important issues—namely whether politicians are advocating stripping rights from women (like reproductive health choices) or finding ways to penalize them and hold them back (withholding equal pay) or simply having a double standard when it comes to lower- vs. …

Confusion during caucus delayed results.
Following last week's recount of ballots for the North Haven Democratic Town Committee's Fifth District, the list of members for the coming year has been finalized. According to the New Haven Register, confusion over voting regulations and a high turnout at the caucus led to a delay in the results. Misspellings on ballots and illegible handwriting only contributed to the problem. Walt Spader, acting a secretary for the caucus, called party officials to discuss the possibility of holding a recount under less hectic circumstances. From the results printed by the Register: "After vote totals for the 5th District were counted at least twice on Jan. 10, district Captain Sarah Aziz and Board of Education member Jennifer Caldwell were not re-…
