HAMDEN, CT Connecticut Spirit All-Stars sponsored a 2 day free clinic for kids throughout New Haven County recently. “Cheerleading 101” was offered to bring kids an introduction to one of the fastest growing sports in America, Competitive Cheerleading. It also reinforced current trends in the country with respect to the importance of physical fitness, and how much fun it can be to get into shape.
Over 100 kids were in attendance throughout the 2 day clinic. Kids from New Haven, Hamden, East Haven, West Haven, Branford, Cheshire, Southington, North Haven, Derby and Bridgeport listened to great music and worked through several stations, including the trampoline, tumble track, and spring floor exercises. Elite coaches from both Spirit All Stars and renowned “Camp Woodward” taught kids how to tighten and use their muscles to perform cheerleading stunts, jumps and motions.
Spirit All Stars has 12 competing teams this year, and boasts over 175 National Championships. The elite coaching staff is dedicated to developing serious athletes. Students and coaches work together to achieve challenging personal and team goals.
“This weekend has been a great way to reach out to kids and show them how much fun we can have getting into shape.” said Program Director Derek Johnson. “Kids can use what they learned here to spark an interest in their own town programs”.
