Local Christmas Trees and Special Activity Cards Available for Families NOW!

Residents of Connecticut have a wonderful NEW tool to use in finding local goods this season at www.buyCTgrown.com! Buying local from farmers, nurseries, producers, restaurants, and businesses that have Connecticut grown goods available has never been easier. And right in time for the holiday season, we are offering family friendly, limited edition cards available at participating Christmas Tree Farms. These cards feature Sing Along Songs, recommended varieties of trees, a DIY activity that uses your left over pine needles and more!

Print out the voucher provided on the buyCTgrown.com site and redeem it for your very own card during your visit to a participating farm starting now until December 24th.

“Because this is just the first of 5 different seasonal crops, people can start collecting them all between now and next summer! This program encourages residents of Connecticut to buy local all year long, which is critical to the agricultural economy.” says Ashley Kremser, Program Director of buyctgrown.com at CitySeed. The cards also promote the CT 10% Campaign that asks Connecticut residents to pledge to spend 10% of their existing food and gardening dollars on locally grown products.  “A great way to fulfill your 10% pledge this month is to stop by a local Christmas tree farm to harvest your own, or pick up a freshly cut tree or wreath, ” suggests Nancy Barrett of UConn Extension.  The campaign is being run in partnership with UConn Extension and the buyCTgrown program at CitySeed.  People can easily sign on to the pledge on www.buyCTgrown.com.
