Louis Cavaliere, III Recognized as Unsung Hero by North Haven Rotary Club

The latest honoree recognized as an Unsung Hero at North Haven High School was recently introduced to the North Haven Rotary Club by Bernadette Casella, a member of the selection committee. She and her husband, Guy, meet with Brian Coughlin, the trio’s chairman, to review nominations each quarter of the school year. Although the focus has been solely on the local high school, the committee plans to expand its reach across the community, and will soon publish ways for the public to make nominations.

Louis Cavaliere, a high school senior and a PE facilitator for the past two years, was nominated this fall by Jennifer Ackerman, his physical education teacher.  Throughout high school, he has been very active with numerous extracurricular interests including serving as the Varsity Football Team Manager, assisting preschool teachers with activities at the high school, supporting Our Lady of Pompeii Church with its fundraising (as well as teaching religious education), volunteering to assist the New Haven Police Union with its Christmas Party for the New Haven community, and helping as an assistant coach for North Haven Youth Football.  He is also a member of the High School Diversity Club and the Green Club.

The well spoken young man began by expressing his gratitude for the “incredible honor” bestowed on him by the club. He also thanked Ackerman, his parents and his other teachers for all that they had done for him. In her nomination letter, his instructor presented a long list of evidence to justify her choice, including countless hours of community service, far surpassing the graduation requirement. While describing his many positive attributes, she stated,”His volunteer work includes giving back to our community and to surrounding communities, as well. He has a genuine character, and always displays a positive attitude.  He is not only friendly to everyone, but really enjoys giving back to others.”
