Is Your Street on the List? Town Continues Stormwater Awareness Efforts

The town is undertaking a storm drain marking project to bring awareness to areas of sensitive waters where trash, nutrients (fertilizers) or pollutants have been identified.

A message from the Town of North Haven's First Selectman:

First Selectman Michael J. Freda announced today that North Haven is continuing with its Stormwater Awareness and Related Activities Program. 

As a part of this important environmental awareness program the Town, during the weeks of May 20th and 28th is again marking storm drains throughout Town.  I

n conjunction with the United States Environmental Protection Agency and the State of Connecticut's Department of Energy and Environmental Protection MS4 Stormwater Best Management Program (BMP), the Town will be marking storm drains throughout Alexander Drive, Ansonia Drive, Frost Drive, Hemingway Road, Macarthur Road, Old Quinnipiac Avenue, Orient Lane, Pine River Road, Potter Road, Spring Road, Vincent Road, Wenzel Farm Road, Drazen Drive and Drazen Drive South, Elizabeth Terrace, Eva Circle, Hansen Farm Road, Knight Lane, Mohawk Drive, Old Clintonville Road,  Pond Hill Road, Rimmon Road, Sara Circle, Sheffield Road, Silo View Road, Stonehedge Drive and Tillert Court. 

Catch basin markers stating “No Dumping, Drains to Stream” will be placed by Department of Public Works staff. 

North Haven, like many municipalities, is undertaking the storm drain marking project throughout the aforementioned neighborhoods to bring awareness to areas of sensitive waters where trash, nutrients (fertilizers) or pollutants have been identified.   

The Department of Public Works will also be transmitting letters to Town residents of Alexander Drive, Ansonia Drive, Frost Drive, Hemingway Road, Macarthur Road, Old Quinnipiac Avenue, Orient Lane,  Pine River Road, Potter Road, Spring Road, Vincent Road, Wenzel Farm Road, Drazen Drive and Drazen Drive South, Elizabeth Terrace, Eva Circle, Hansen Farm Road, Knight Lane, Mohawk Drive, Old Clintonville Road, Pond Hill Road, Rimmon Road, Sara Circle, Sheffield Road, Silo View Road, Stonehedge Drive and Tillert Court where markers will be installed to enhance knowledge regarding stormwater management.  

“Regardless of the condition of a receiving stream or water body, these markings can raise awareness throughout our Town about the connection between storm drains and receiving waters and can help to deter littering, excess fertilizer use, illegal dumping, and other practices that contribute to stormwater pollution” Selectman Freda said.   

As part of the Stormwater Awareness Program, the Department of Public Works is commencing with the storm drain marking program in this selected area, which should discourage practices that generate pollutants.
