Rotary's "Day of Wine & Roses" to Be Bigger Than Ever

On Sept. 29. the Rotary Club of North Haven will host its 12th annual Day of Wine & Roses from 1 to 5 p.m. and the event will be bigger than ever before.

Nick D’Ambrosia, the President Elect of the North Haven Rotary Club, announced that the lot size of the venue for the event will be greatly expanded this year. The owners of All Star Automotive, strong supporters of Rotary’s charitable causes and located next door to Forget- Me- Not Florist, have offered the use of their property for the event, virtually doubling the space available in the past.

The expansion will include two 40x30 tents, a 30x30 tent and a 20x20 tent, as well as tables and chairs generously donated by the owners of the Breakfast Nook Restaurant and Quality Tents, LLC.

The club’s planning committee has secured more than 30 restaurants which will provide a variety of food to accompany more than 50 great homemade wines that have been entered into the competition.

Apizza Grande has generously committed to provide their trailer to make fresh hot brick oven pizza on site. In addition, Durante Pasta will demonstrate and serve their homemade pasta and fresh mozzarella cheese.

Through the generosity of the local restaurant owners, food choices will include portions of a whole spit roasted pig, chicken and beef selections, a variety of penne pasta, calamari, clams casino, arancini rice balls, scallops, artichokes, stuffed mushrooms, baked stuffed potatoes, Italian baked stuff breads, numerous cheese samplings, homemade Greek spinach pies, homemade eggplant parmesan, Italian sausage and peppers, Lobby's Italian Ice, Italian pastry, cakes, cookies, hot coffee, Foxon Park soft drinks, bottled water and much more – all for a $35 ticket aimed at raising funds for charity.
Beside the popular raffles, an interesting array of silent auction items will go up for bid, including such things as a pig roast at your home, a fine selection of wines, a wine tasting party for 10 at your home, a Reiki healing treatment and a 2014 Silver Sands Beach Club membership.

There will be live entertainment during the 1 to 5 p.m. event including Italian, jazz and contemporary music. In fact, a renowned international singer depicted as being "from the same mold that spawned Dean Martin and Danny Kaye" (Cabaret Scenes) has made a tentative commitment.

Tickets are available from any club member, or by calling Nick D'Ambrosia at 203- 668-7811 or email nickd@nanddsports.com.
