KOSKOFF, KOSKOFF & BIEDER NAMED "PERSONAL INJURY LITIGATION DEPARTMENT OF THE YEAR"

BRIDGEPORT, July 14, 2014 – The Connecticut Law Tribune has named Koskoff, Koskoff & Bieder as a recipient of a Litigation Department of the Year Award.

The Bridgeport-based law firm was named for its personal injury litigation department.

According to the publication, Koskoff, Koskoff & Bieder has won six of the top ten largest personal injury verdicts in Connecticut history, three of the top verdicts in 2013. The firm received national attention for several of its recent cases.

KK&B was ranked in the Top 50 nationally for “Big Money Wins” by American Lawyer Media, publishers of the National Law Journal.  KK&B’s Munn v. Hotchkiss, a personal injury case involving a girl who contracted a life-altering disease while on a school trip to China, resulted in a $41.75 million federal jury award.  It was the largest non-medical malpractice award in Connecticut history and the twelfth highest monetary verdict nationally in 2013.

In an earlier case, D’Attilo v. Viscarello Maternal-Fetal Care, Koskoff attorneys obtained the largest medical malpractice judgment in Connecticut history:  $58 million in 2011 for a family whose child suffered severe cerebral palsy at birth as a result of critical errors on the part of his obstetrician.

And just this past month, in Gagliano v. Danbury Hospital, Koskoff achieved what is thought to be the largest medical malpractice verdict in Danbury court history: $12 million for a great grandmother who suffered a botched surgery that resulted in long-term, serious medical problems.

Last year, four Koskoff attorneys served on the Michael Jackson family legal team that brought a wrongful death case against the pop music legend's concert promoter, assisting with the medical aspects of the case.

“We’re thrilled to accept the Law Tribune’s Personal Injury Litigation Department of the Year Award,” said Atty. Michael Koskoff, member of Koskoff, Koskoff & Bieder. “We are always ready to go to trial, because our clients typically want their day in court, and because their cases are often worth much more than what insurance companies are willing to offer during mediation or settlement.”

Each year the Law Tribune honors “powerhouse practices” in the state.  In addition to the award for Personal Injury, awards were also given in other areas, including Intellectual Property; Products Liability/Mass Torts; Labor and Employment; and Insurance.

Koskoff, Koskoff & Bieder has offices in Bridgeport, New Haven, Danbury, and Stamford.  The nationally known law firm has achieved record verdicts for people who suffer serious personal injuries or economic harm from medical malpractice, violation of their civil or constitutional rights, dangerous products, negligence, drunk drivers, corporate or governmental abuse and commercial misconduct.
