A Day of Wine & Roses: The Latest Support of Rotary's Charitable Events by NHTV

Two local service groups, cable access TV and the North Haven Rotary Club, lend mutual support.

Executive Director Walter Mann has been called the visionary behind cable television’s NHTV, having been with the North Haven non-profit since its inception in 1984. Four years later, the community’s local access station, now called channel 18, describes itself as “truly the voice of the community, enabling citizens to speak their mind, promote their cause, or showcase their talents.”  Accepting a donation from the North Haven Rotary Club recently, Mann indicated that he has always tried to work with local non-profits, and to keep the community well informed. Many consider him a pioneer by involving youth as interns, allowing greater news coverage of town meetings, commissions, and sporting events.

In regard to a former intern who is moving on, the Director praised the service of Production Assistant Hugo Olguin who started at the station 13 years ago, and now has accepted a position as a Master Control Operator at Encompass Digital Media in Stamford where he will deal with ESPN, Lifetime, and other national networks. At his recent taping of a promotional video for Rotary’s September 30th Day of Wine & Roses, Olguin said that he was only 13 years old when he began at NHTV.  Mann told the club that several former interns who cut their teeth in television at NHTV are now working with MTV and ESPN.

In thanking the Rotary club for their ongoing support, the CEO stated, “I truly thank you for your generous donation of $500, as it will greatly benefit NHTV in its continued efforts at being an information resource for North Haven." He continued, "NHTV and the Rotary club have had a long relationship working together on numerous great causes, including your telethons for aid to Haiti and the Japanese Earthquake Relief, as well as helping to spread the word about numerous Rotary charitable events in North Haven.  In this day and age, and with the economic troubles that we all are experiencing, it is great to see non-profits such as NHTV and the North Haven Rotary Club working together for common causes.”  (Go to www.nhrotary.org)
