North Haven Rotary Club Awards Paul Harris Fellowships

The North Haven Rotary Club went above and beyond to honor those who went above and beyond.

The Paul Harris Fellow award recognition, established in 1957 by Rotary International, acknowledges individuals in whose names contributions of $1,000 have been made to The Rotary Foundation of Rotary International. Several individuals were recognized recently by the North Haven Rotary Club because of their service to others, deemed well beyond the norm.

At the officer installation/awards night dinner held at Anthony’s Ocean View in June, the Paul Harris Award was presented from the board of directors to Angelo Verdini for his 50 years of club membership. For their outstanding club service, Treasurer William Espowood, Program Chairmen Mary and Mark Minotti, and Interact Advisor Ellie Mulligan received the coveted award. Five privately donated Paul Harris Awards were also distributed for their community service: Jonathan Martinek to his wife, Sachiko; Alexander Casella from his parents, Gaetano & Bernadette; and District Governor-Elect Dr. Richard Bassett to his wife, Jennifer.

The final two fellowships presented that evening were awarded by Past President Ralph W. Cook, III who began by recognizing his wife Lynda for “helping countless people over her 25 year career as a Registered Nurse.” Then, because of his chairmanship of the North Haven Housing Authority, he personally recognized Anne McKeon who he said was instrumental in the development of the authority and “has served as the North Haven Housing Director for almost 30 years,” adding, “She has helped hundreds of North Haven residents in senior housing.” Cook was also recognized for the third time as a Paul Harris Fellow for both his local service, as well as his continued major financial support of the international foundation.

At an evening of Rotary fellowship held at the beach house of Phyllis and Brian Havens in East Haven in July, the North Haven Rotary Club’s past president, Guy Casella,  also gave the very special award to “a big supporter of Rotary activities,” Anna Delmonico, co-owner with her husband, Anthony, of Anthony’s Ocean View Restaurant in East Haven. Once again, the fine buffet provided by the hosts was prepared by the award recipient’s establishment.
