North Haven Rotary Club Seeks Wine Makers for Annual Competition

While inviting winemakers to join in the festivities, President-Elect Debbie Volain, chairperson of the North Haven Rotary Club’s eleventh annual Day of Wine & Roses, has announced that the recently expanded Forget-Me-Not Florist on State Street will once again be host to this highly acclaimed event on Sunday, September 30, 2012 from 1:00-5:00 p.m., featuring a variety of bottled wines which may be submitted by any interested wine maker. The shop’s parking lot will provide all-weather tents for protection from the elements, as well as a wide assortment of food, beverages, and live entertainment, complemented by an assortment of colorful balloons and exotic floral arrangements, all for a $30 ticket.

Although an ad book based on reasonable rates, and an ever popular raffle of donated valuables will certainly contribute to this fund raiser which is designated for charity, the chairwoman emphasized that the wine makers are the key to making the event a success. The expertise of area businesses related to the wine industry, as well as demonstrations of food preparation, will again be shared. Participants will also dine on a feast of fresh roasted pig and smoked chicken provided by Rotarian Jonathan Martinek’s catering service, Have Grill Will Travel.

Entering this fast growing competition for wine makers is easy. Contestants simply submit 4 bottles of wine for each category of interest. Three awards will be given in each category of the homemade wine division which includes White & Specialty, Single Varietals, and Blended Red. A single award also goes to the Pro-Wine category of self made wine produced in a commercial facility.
