Thanksgiving Food Drive Receives Rotary Funds

Each November, the Rotary club collects funds from its members for the Food Bank.

Reverend Scott Morrow, Pastor of the North Haven Congregation Church, oversees the North Haven Food Bank and recently told the North Haven Rotary Club that he has “long-standing respect” for the service club and its continued support for the Holiday Food Drive.  He explained that the Food Bank was started 40 years ago by two North Haven firefighters and was housed in the fire headquarters.  Due to space needs it was later moved to the Congregational Church where it remains today. He added that the North Haven Food Bank is a joint effort of all of the religious denominations in the community and is available to all town residents, as well as to all of the parishioners.

Although the pantry is open year round, there is a much greater effort made over the holidays. For Thanksgiving, the church volunteers will assemble individual boxes of food for 86 families in need. Members of the Rotary club have been making individual donations to the annual drive in recent weeks. Once again, through an arrangement with Liberty Bank, every dollar raised for the drive in the community and channeled through the Rotary club will be matched by the bank with a contribution of 25 cents.
