Memorial Golf Tournament Honors North Haven Youth

An organizer and officer of the Italian Youth Organization, the ambitious young son of Elisa and Nicola Casella, a graduate of St. Stephen Elementary School, Notre Dame High School, and Babson College, had joined his father’s local insurance company and had recently founded a successful website known as MedicareCT.com, when tragedy struck.

A horrible automobile accident took the life of Marc Anthony Casella on March 6, 2008. With the theme “Remembering his smile” a golf tournament was established by the board of the Italian Youth Foundation at Hamden’s Laurel View Country Club in Marc’s memory. Since Nick Casella is a past president of Rotary in North Haven, many members of the club participate.

When Marc’s dad struggles to speak of his personal loss, he shows the immense pride he always had for his son as he describes Marc’s strong desire to “give back” at local schools, including North Haven High School, for the solid education he had received by providing speaking engagements and mentoring business students.

Although in prior years a portion of the proceeds raised was awarded solely to a student at St. Stephen in Hamden and another at Notre Dame in West Haven to assist with tuition, the charitable donations have been increased to include the Muscular Dystrophy Association, the local food bank in North Haven, and a child with serious medical needs at the Montowese Elementary School.

Despite the community’s generous support of the foundation in the past, the success of the ongoing charity needs annual contributions of items to use for raffles and a live auction, sponsorships and/or cash donations, and for those who can break away from work, men and women on the links.
This popular sixth annual event at Laurel View is scheduled for Thursday, June 27, 2013.

If you have no time for play, simply come join the fun at a delicious luncheon. For further information and registration, please go to www.maceducationfund.com, or call Nick Casella or Rose Romatzick at 203-239-4044.
