Expect Delays: Crack Sealing on North Haven Roadways Begins Oct. 23

More than 40 town roadways will soon receive crack sealing treatment — is your street on the list?

More than three dozen streets across town are scheduled to get a much-needed face lift beginning next week.

The North Haven Department of Public Works, along with the Coventry-based private contractor A & A Asphalt, will begin crack sealing operations throughout town on Oct. 23.

The length of the town-wide project is expected to last about three to four weeks, depending upon weather conditions.

Roadway Study

The sealing project is a direct result of a "Pavement Condition Study" that was conducted by BETA Engineering through the South Central Region Council of Governments (SCRCOG), according to the First Selectman's Office.

As a result of the study, the engineering group identified 46 North Haven roadways that need to receive crack sealing in lieu of milling and paving, or a full restoration.

Leaf Collection

Since the Fall Leaf Collection Program will be taking place at the same time as the crack sealing operation, the town is advising all residents who live on the roadways slated for roadway work to place all leaves at the curb and not in the street.

Town officials remind residents that it is important to clear leaves from the streets "so that the cracks may be easily visible," and so that they may be able to "clear and promptly fill and seal all cracks."

Caution During Roadwork Projects

Additionally, town officials are urging all residents to exercise caution while traveling on the roadways selected for sealing, and follow all traffic patterns that will be displayed during crack sealing operations.

Residents should be aware of cracks that are newly sealed, as time is needed for sealant curing — and if not careful sealant can stick to vehicle tires.
