Flood Warning Issued

National Weather Service warns rain could lead to flooding in South Central CT.

The National Weather Service issued a Flood Warning for today effective through the mid-afternoon, with heavy rains of up to half an inch per hour expected to lead to heavy pooling on highways and areas still clogged with snow.

The Service advises drivers to avoid heavily flooded areas, citing the dangers of automobile-related drownings and mechanical damage to vehicles caused by the water.

Small streams and creeks are anticipated to flood quickly, spilling overflow onto roadways and disrupting traffic.

Following the rainstorm, heavy winds will start to kick in with gusts reaching upwards of 55 mph. High-profile vehicles are urged to excercise caution on highways to avoid tip-overs.

A Flood Watch will remain in effect until Saturday. Up to 2.5 inches of rainfall are predicted in some areas, which, when combined with the existing snowpacks still on the ground, could lead to rising water levels in urban areas, underpasses, and roadways.
