Gun Owners Rally in Hartford in Support of Second Amendment

Several hundred supporters attended Saturday's pro-gun rally at the Capitol.

Hundreds of gun owners, including some reportedly armed with pistols and rifles, stood outside of the Capitol on Saturday to rally in support of gun rights.

The event, sponsored by Connecticut Citizens Defense League, was one of dozens of rallies held on "Gun Appreciation Day," a nationwide response to calls for tighter gun control.

"This is in response to the attacks and the assault on the Second Amendment. People want to let our voices be heard out here before our rights are robbed from us, so this is entirely appropriate, especially with what we're facing," Scott Wilson, president of the organization, told the crowd according to the Hartford Courant.

Wilson's comments eluded to criticism over the decision to hold the rally just over a month since Adam Lanza killed 26 students and teachers at Sandy Hook Elementary School in Newtown.

But many at the rally wore ribbons for the victims of the mass shooting, according to WTNH.

Davenport told therepublic.com, "I am the wife of a first responder, and a mother," while carrying a sign that read Mom, wife, patriot, Christian, I own guns.

"Unfortunately gun owners are becoming demonized. We aren't bad, insensitive, radical people.  We're moms, dads, white collar, blue collar, neighbors, and more. It was important for me to illustrate the average American who is a gun owner," she told Patch.

The reason we were there..."Any gun control beyond very basic regulations has proven time & time again to be a dismal failure. There are currently over 20,000 laws in place, many of which WE as gun owners know better than those who wrote them. Why? Because we are the law-abiding citizens who have firmly established that WE are not the problem you seek to legislate. One only has to look at the cities & states w/ the most restrictive gun laws & their extremely high violent crime rates to see the absurdity of pushing for more gun legislation. “Gun free zones” have proven to be nothing more than killing fields for the unarmed"

One of the items this President wants in his gun control revisions is mandatory back ground checks for all gun purchases. He should read up on the laws. We already have such in the context of the Federal National Instant Criminal Background Check system, aka E-Check. A system where every FFl dealer can either call or via on-line access can do an instant criminal check on every potential buyer. Can't do any better then that. Every arrest ever made is maintained by the Feds. Available also via what is termed NCIC, aka National Crime Information Center. This is what the PD's use. Problem with the E-Check is only 30 states use it. I know Ct does. Want to fix something Mr. P, make every state do it. PR does, 5 territories and DC as well. Now that would be doing something constructive.
