Although the town did not experience the wide-scale flooding and storm surge other area towns did on Monday, Hurricane Sandy had left thousands of North Haven residents without power as of early Tuesday morning.
According to United Illuminating's outage map, as of 1:30 a.m., there were 2,330 customers without power in North Haven — or more than 21 percent of the town.
Still, North Haven was one of the towns with the lowest number and percentage of residents without power in UI's distribution area.
The highest number without power was Bridgeport, where close to 70 percent of the city was without electricity.
The large number is primarily due to the fact that the utility company decided to shut down a substation in the city due to encroaching flood waters, in order to protect the equipment from damaging sea water.
North Haven Patch will continue to provide updates on the town's power outage situation as more informaton becomes available.
