North Branford PD Hands Special Olympics Torch Over to North Haven Officers
Torch will end up at Southern Connecticut State University in New Haven on June 10.
North Branford police officers sweated it out this morning for a good cause. They carried the Special Olympics torch through the streets covering an impressive 4.8 miles until it was handed over to North Haven officers.
With the “Flame of Hope” in hand for the thre-day run, law enforcement officers, Special Olympics Connecticut athletes and hundreds of volunteers will carry the torch through 100 Connecticut cities and towns to the final destination of the flame at Southern Connecticut State University in New Haven on June 10 to kick off the 42nd annual Summer Games at the Opening Ceremony.
The Law Enforcement Torch Run is Special Olympics’ single largest grassroots fundraiser and public awareness agent. The Connecticut Torch Run Program raises more than a half-million dollars each year for Special Olympics Connecticut with fundraisers including Tip-a-Cop’s, Cop-on-Top’s, the Torch Run and much more.
