North Haven Unemployment Rate Shifts Back Up to 7.7 Percent

The number of those listed as unemployed in North Haven rose back up over 7 percent for the month of February.

North Haven's unemployment rate has once again moved back up over the 7 percent mark.

According to the latest figures released by the Connecticut Department of Labor, North Haven's unemployment rate for February was 7.7 percent.

In December, the town's unemployment rate sat at 6.4 percent. And in November it stood at 7.0 percent.

Additionally, the department's figures showed the reported labor force in North Haven dropped over the past two-months: from 12,848 in December to 12,792 in February.

In Connecticut, the pool of jobless people last month also rose to 8.4 percent overall. Nationally, the United State's unemployment rate is 8.1 percent.

North Haven Numbers

North Haven's lowest unemployment rate of the last 12 months was 6.2 percent in April. It rose to 6.5 percent in May, was 7.0 percent in June — and the town began the year with an unemployment rate of 8.0 percent in January 2011.

In 2012, North Haven's annual average unemployment rate was 7.4 percent. In 2011 it was 8.0, and in 2010 it was 8.3 percent.

The town's highest reported unemployment rate over the last two years was in August 2010, when 9.2 percent of North Haven was out of work. It's lowest came in April of this year at 6.8 percent.
