Shave the Date!

St. Baldrick's head-shaving event for cancer research coming up next week.

Members of the North Haven Police Department will be shaving their heads next week in a show of support for children's cancer research. And you can get involved as well.

The St. Baldrick's Foundation, which runs numerous head-shaving events to raise awareness and money for the study and treatment of pediatric cancer, is inviting residents to drop by the G Salon on Washington Avenue on March 21 to stand with the Police Department, make a donation, or even go under the razor themselves.

In a show of solidarity, North Haven Middle School students have been encouraged to wear green on the day of event to stand behind teachers and staff who lent their time to the cause.

The effort has gotten some added attention of late thanks to Attorney General George Jepson's decision to shave his own head on March 11. Putting fashion aside in the name of the cause, Jepson noted to a crowd:

"I have to confess I’m a little apprehensive. But helping to raise money for children’s cancer research is a very worthy cause and I’m happy to be able to contribute. Now let’s get on with it."
