Storms Likely Thursday: Hurricane Irene This Weekend?

Conditions are looking more and more favorable that we will feel the effects of Hurricane Irene here in Connecticut this weekend. The ferocity of this storm system is highly dependent on the exact track and further intensification. At this point in time, I am confident in saying that Tropical Storm force winds (39-74 mph) and heavy rain are likely Saturday night and Sunday. Please stay tuned for further updates as conditions can change quickly. 

Today: Partly to mostly sunny skies, pleasant. Highs in the low-80s. Overnight lows will be comfortable in the low-60s.

Thursday: Clouds will be on the increase throughout the day. Look for showers and storms to develop by the mid-afternoon. Some storms may be severe. Highs in the low-80s. Overnight lows in the low- to mid-60s.

Friday: The calm before the storm. Look for partly cloudy skies with highs in the low-80s. Overnight lows in the low-60s.

Saturday: Clouds will be on the increase with rain developing by late afternoon. Highs in the upper-70s. Rain and wind will pick up in intensity during the overnight hours. Rain may be very heavy at times with tropical storm force winds likely. Flooding will definitely be a possibility. Overnight lows near 70 degrees. 

Sunday: Very heavy rain and wind. Several inches of rain expected. Winds possibly gusting to 50 or 60 miles per hour. Highs in the upper-70s. Overnight lows near 70 degrees.
