VNA Encourages the Public to Get the Flu Vaccine

VNA offering sessions in Wallingford and New Haven.

The Visiting Nurse Association of South Central Connecticut (VNA/SCC) supports the CDC’s recommendation that everyone six months and older receive a flu vaccine as flu season is quickly approaching.

In the United States, influenza season usually begins in October and can last until May.

To make it easy to receive the vaccine from a Registered Nurse or Licensed Practical Nurse, the VNA/SCC is offering two flu clinics to the public.

"Individuals who meet the CDC guidelines should get vaccinated in order to prevent themselves and their loved ones from contracting the flu," said John Quinn, President & CEO o f VNA Health Systems. "Although many pharmacies offer the flu vaccine, we recommend that the public receive their vaccine from a professionally trained nurse from the VNA."

The CDC states that the 2011-2012 flu vaccine will protect against the three influenza viruses that research indicates will be most common during the season. This includes an influenza A (H1N1) virus, an influenza A (H3N2) virus, and an influenza B virus.

The vaccine available at the VNA/SCC clinic is appropriate for individuals aged nine and older. Registration is not required.

The following insurances are accepted: Aetna, Blue Cross & Blue Shield, ConnectiCare, and Medicare B. The cost of the vaccine for those who do not have one of the previously mentioned insurances is $30.
