Wintery Mix to Continue

Don't put away those parkas yet, the first day of spring is looking like anything but.

If last week's weather was too good to be true, then this week's is looking too bad to be believed. A wintry mix of rain, sleet, and snow is expected to fall until early evening, with total accumulations coming out to less than half an inch.

The National Weather Service has issued a statement saying the New Haven area can expect to receive 1-3 inches of snow before 2 p.m. this afternoon before the precipitation switches over to all rain.

The Service also drafted a Hazardous Weather Outlook for today and tonight, but said that Tuesday through Sunday will not pose any kind of threat.

Tuesday should offer some respite from today's downpour. The day is expected to be sunny, with highs near 50, before dropping into freezing territory in the evening.

Wednesday is shaping up to be another doozy, with snow expected to fall in the early morning before mixing with rain for the bulk of the afternoon. Accumulations should amount to less than a quarter of an inch, but the snow is nevertheless predicted to carry through the evening into Thursday morning.

The rest of the week following the storm should remind us that spring is here, if not exactly all the way. Friday through Sunday are anticipated to be mostly sunny, with highs in the 40s.
