Trailblazer and Denali Hiker Series: Chauncey Park

Part III of our fall Come Hike With Us series brings us to Chauncey Peak in Meriden on Sunday, October 13th. The focus of this hike will be Backpacking 101.

Backpacking 101
Looking to branch out of the “hiker” category and in to the exciting world of backpacking? We want to help you venture from the day-hike and into the world of weekend backpacking! Bring your pack along for a challenging hike up Chauncey Peak where we will enjoy a great view of the area and discuss appropriate gear and how to pack your backpack.  This will also be a great chance to share information on where some of the best local trips are!
When: Sunday, October 13, 2013 at 10:00 a.m.
Where: Chauncey Peak and Mattabesett Trails- Meet at Giuffrida Park in Meriden, CT -Look for Denali/Trailblazer sign
Difficulty: Moderate, with some difficult sections
Miles: 7
Estimated Time: 3.5-4 hrs
Trail Description: A beautiful hike with wonderful views, this trail is part of the New England Trail (NET). Here we will hike up the challenging section of Chauncey Peak to enjoy views here, then carry on to Lamentation Mountain. Along the way we will stop to discuss Backpacking and transitioning from day-trips to overnights int he backcountry! Feel free to bring your backpack as we will also discuss what items you may still need before heading out on your own.
