FITWEEK is a weeklong event taking place October 1-7, 2012 throughout Greater New Haven.

Try Zumba, Yoga, Pilates, Tae Kwon Do, Jiu Jitsu, Salsa and more!

Search the new FITWEEK Directory, an online resource for fitness businesses in the Greater New Haven area. Listings for public programs and community spaces will be added soon.

The public is invited to join FITWEEK’s community leaders in the FITWEEK 10K Step Challenge presented by Fitbit. Community leaders include Sonia Baghdady, News Anchor at WTNH, Dr. Anees Chagpar, Director, The Breast Center at Smilow Cancer Hospital at Yale-New Haven, Claire Criscuolo, Chef/Restaurateur/Cookbook Author at Claire's Corner Copia and Basta Trattoria, Tony Rescigno, President of the Greater New Haven Chamber of Commerce, James P. Torgerson, President & CEO of UIL Holdings Corporation.

FITWEEK’s leaders have been challenged to walk 10,000 steps a day Monday through Friday of FITWEEK. 10,000 steps is a rough equivalent to the U.S. Surgeon General’s recommendation to accumulate 30 minutes of activity most days of the week. It should be enough to reduce your risk for disease and help you lead a longer, healthier life! If they reach their goal, FITWEEK will make a donation to Smilow Cancer Hospital at Yale-New Haven. Everyone is encouraged to join the challenge by signing up on the FITWEEK website!

The family-friendly “step-off” for the 10K Step Challenge presented by Fitbit will take place on Saturday, September 29 at Bishops Orchards from 10am to 12pm. Join our community leaders as they take their official first steps of the Challenge.

Additional events will take place throughout the week including themed FITWEEK Walks - the Shopping Walk will be hosted by The Shops at Yale and led by Sonia Baghdady on October 1 in downtown New Haven. The Pink (& Green) Walk hosted by soundRunner will be led by Dr. Anees Chagpar on October 4 in Branford. The Museum Walk hosted by The Shops at Yale will be led by Claire Criscuolo on October 6 in downtown New Haven. Additional walks will take place throughout FITWEEK.  Visit www.fitweek.net for a full calendar listing.

FITWEEK is sponsored by The United Illuminating Company, Southern Connecticut Gas, Fitbit, HigherOne, Cymplify, Yale WorkLife, The Shops at Yale, Elm City Market, Green Well Organic Coffee & Tea, Silverman Group, Bishops Orchards, and PinPoint Promotions.
