Local Teen Raises Money for Tornado Victims

Not willing to sit by and watch, a North Haven teen ran a bake and lemonade sale to raise money for the victims of the recent tornado disaster in Oklahoma.

Sabrina Pond, a 17 year old junior at North Haven High School, recently organized a cookie and lemonade stand that took place at the school to raise money for tornado victims.  Even though there were a few store-bought items purchased and sold, Pond baked a great many cookies for the sale, spending most of the day before baking.

She also rallied friends and family to help out and created flyers that were distributed at the Ridge Road variety show, the high school and town hall.

Still with all of this advertisement, word of mouth and email notification, the day proved too cold and windy for much of a turnout.  The group raised about $200.  Pond, not deterred by this and driven to raise as much as she could, took her cookies, friends and family and on foot, went door to door to sell more.

Persistence pays off and just over $550 was raised and donated to the Red Cross for disaster relief help.
