LWV Brings Food Day 2012 to Hamden & North Haven!

Hamden/North Haven League of Women Voters is doing a lot to help spread the word about Food Day 2012! What is Food Day? Want to get involved? Check out what we are doing locally - and JOIN IN!

Your local LWV is doing a LOT to help raise awareness of one of our nation's newest initiatives - Food Day!!!

What is Food Day? Food Day is a nationwide celebration and a movement for healthy, affordable, and sustainable food.  Across the country, thousands of Americans are joining the movement for healthy, affordable, sustainable food. In 2011, the first year of the campaign, Food Day brought together food movement leaders, organizations, physicians, nutritionists, labor leaders, environmentalists, farmers, chefs, authors, and cookbook writers, as well as parents, children, teachers, and citizens from all walks of life, united by their belief in a better food system.

When is Food Day? Wednesday, October 24th - but event's are being held nationally throughout the month to promote awareness, and get the word out!

What is happening LOCALLY? Want to get involved? Your local LWV is helping to bring the word to Hamden & North Haven. Check out our events & join in!

  • Miller Library - visit Hamden's Miller Library and check out the wonderful "Food Day" display created by librarian Elisabeth Angelo in conjunction with Library Director Marian Amodeo.
  • North Haven Memorial Library - pop in and check out the displays in both the adult & children's department's promoting healthy, sustainable & even locally grown food!
  • Ted's Steamed Cheeseburgers, North Haven - Yes, the very same that you may have seen on "Man Vs. Food!" LWV is teaming up with Ted's to help raise awareness of Food Day, and also raise monies to fund local league projects & events throughout the year. Stop in this Wednesday, October 24th between 11am - 9pm, grab a burger & meet some of your LWV!
  • From Land and Sea: Food for the Good of Connecticut - Saturday, October 27th 9am - 12:30pm. Agriscience & Biotechnology Center in Trumbull CT. The LWV of CT will be hosting a morning event to promote CT grown food & resources. Speakers will include Steven Reviczky - Commissioner of Agriculture, John Turenne - Sustainable Food Systems, LLC, David Katz, MD - Prevention Research Center at Yale University, and Lucy Nolan - End Hunger Connecticut!
