Veterans, honored Senator Len Fasano (R-North Haven) for his service to the Veterans community in our state. Senator Fasano the minority leader pro-tempore accepted the honor at a ceremony in Wallingford on Wednesday October 23, 2012, at the Veterans of Foreign War Post #591.
"It has been my pleasure to continue to serve the people in my district," said Sen. Fasano. "As the former ranking member of the Veterans Affairs Committee I have been keenly aware of the struggles our veterans and their families go through. We have made some significant strides in making their lives better."
"Senator Fasano’s commitment to veterans and their families has been commendable. He has been there for us over the years and we are grateful for his friendship and his leadership," remarked Bob Parisi, Wallingford Veteran.

Senator Fasano has helped craft legislation to protect veterans and to help them in their every day lives. Some of those policies include:
* Supported a law that punishes those responsible for the desecration of war memorials

* Supported a law allowing for a veterans identification card
* Supported a law allowing an employer tax credits for hiring unemployed veterans
* Supported a law protecting property tax exemptions for veterans
* Supported VetRewards card program
The VetRewards card is part of the Veterans Advantage national program that partners with private corporations. Partner companies, such as retail stores, restaurants and service providers, show their appreciation for the program’s members by providing discounts on their goods or services every day.
"There are tens of thousands of military veterans in the State of Connecticut and we are committed to recognizing them and their family members for their service with real benefits," said Dr. Linda S. Schwartz, the Connecticut Commissioner of Veterans’ Affairs.
Interested Connecticut veterans, Active Duty Military, National Guard, Reserve and their family members are encouraged to enroll in the Veterans Advantage through the Connecticut Department of Veterans’ Affairs website (www.ct.gov/ctva<http://www.ct.gov/ctva>), where they will be eligible to receive a special 25% discount on the program’s fees.
The celebration was attended by members from VFW Post #591 & American Legion #73.
