I Am So Much More
I have Multiple Sclerosis; however I do not let the disease define who I am.
I am only one, but still I am one. I cannot do everything, but still I can do something; And because I cannot do everything, I will not refuse to do the something that I can do. (E.E.H.)
These words speak true to me in many domains of my life. I have Multiple Sclerosis; however I do not let the disease define who I am. I am much more than that. I am a woman, an activist, a graduate, a daughter, a mentor, a sister, a social worker, a niece and a friend – and so much more.
I was diagnosed with MS in 2003. Just as the literature states, every day is a different day; each with a different symptom, and sometimes no symptoms at all. Since 2003, I have been remained proactive in my life. After three dedicated years, I earned my Master's Degree in Social Work. Concurrently, I have worked and continue to work full time at a prestigious university practicing in-home child/family psychotherapy. I continue to mentor a young girl though Big Brothers Big Sisters of America – and have been for the past 8 years. I am proud to have been an ambassador and active member & Team Leader in the Connecticut MS Walk for the past 9 years. I also have been a member of the National Association of Social Workers (NASW) for the past 6 years. I also sit on the Board as Internet & Social Media Co-Chair for the League of Women Voters Hamden-North Haven Chapter.

I realize that we all play an active role in our own lives. MS will not stop me. As much as destiny may take its course, our actions will speak for all of us in the end. I have learned, in my short but prudent journey that Multiple Sclerosis can not and will not dictate my drives and desires. It may seem like I have accomplished many things in my life, but this is just the beginning. I am hopeful that someday I will become a healthy mother and wife, and will be able to pass on my passion for life, to my children.
With your support, I am hopeful that someday I will be cured. I will live happily and MS free.
