‘Our Educational System is Not Failing’

A look at recent comments from Patch account holders in the region.

“Our educational system is not failing. 10 years of [No Child Left Behind] has certainly made it appear like it is failing, but the facts are different. I recommend you read this article about how the media has not done its job and has instead taken the easy path to report the current meme.

http://www.ajr.org/Article.asp?id=5280” Are American schools failing?  takes the media to task for the ‘failing’ storyline that has reached national levels.

“The boy was my nephew and I’m devastated...he passed today ...anyone who saw this guy please please get in touch with the police...thank you for your thoughts and prayers...he was an awesome kid with a very bright future in front of him...he'll be missed terribly.” A young man was killed in a car accident in Naugatuck. , apparently an uncle of the victim, shares some details about the man.

“Really, the people in town government need to listen to the residents and crack down on Quinnipiac. I simply don't understand why nothing substantial is being done.” Tensions between students at Quinnipiac University and Hamden residents continue to simmer. wants something done.

School buildings represent learning institutions. If they are in need of repair doesn't that effect the learning process as it becomes an inconvenience/distraction. If money is not there, it needs to be taken from the education side of the budget, especially when the school building maintenance side runs out of money. Mike Freda's idea is to cut education staff to pay for school building expenses? This is happening in other Towns and Cities as well. If our schools are this bad in North Haven what makes people think education isn't suffering in their Towns as well. The money must come from somewhere.

Housing prices are dropping in North Haven and this could be due to the fact that reports of our education system and schools aren't as good as people once thought it was? This was according to an article I read. The homeowner is paying dearly for bad decisions our First Selectmen Mike Freda makes. Our education system was one reason housing prices were kept up and now they're dropping? I guess the word is getting around. Our Town services aren't what they once were either, so what does North Haven have going for it? Our roads are terrible and continue to get worse. Blame Mike Freda, who raised our taxes a lot over the past 2 years. This is the first year he won't raise taxes and with all things considered, he needs to make more cuts, in order to come up with money the Town does not have to address expenses. It's a good time to buy in North Haven, but not a good time to sell. We can't expect things to turn around anytime soon. Just wait til more bad news breaks about North Haven. That will hurt us even more. Those who will want to leave maybe can't afford to, as they could lose more money? We'll just have to wait and see what surfaces next.

Education is not failing? It depends on who's talking and what Town you live in. Listen to what parents of students with special needs and those requiring help, are saying. School superintendant Dr. Cronin speaks for Mike Freda, our First Selectmen. Mike Freda is a BOE board member, but he isn't saying much as it's out of his jurisdiction? Why is he serving as a member then, if he's not involved? The truth is, he's more involved than people think he is. Is this Gov. Dannel Malloy's education reform plan or is it Mike Freda's education reform plan to give him more money by cutting education staff? We need a new Middle School roof and that $3M it costs was not included in the $14M Capital Project approved recently. This is a Town Building so it should have been. What about the defective boilers needing repacement at the H.S. a 7yr. old building? The roof leaks there, too. What about other schools? Freda must make cuts everywhere no one else would, to pay for these expenses. What ese can he do after promissing no tax increases this year?

Maybe I'm just smarter than people are willing to give me credit for, Mr. Testa. I'm sure the rewards will prove that to be true, Mr. Testa as you continue speaking through both sides of your mouth like hypocrites do. I'm usually the quiet type, keeping to myself, but when challenged that's a different story that surprises many. I'm not afraid to put people in their place. They have no defense against the truth, eventhough some like you continue to argue the truth.
