Sit Back, Relax and Enjoy Some Wine

For wine connoisseurs and novices alike, a free tasting is the perfect way to experience some new wines.

Now that the warmer weather is here, enjoying a glass of wine with your significant other or a group of friends is a nice way to end the work week or relax on the weekend. There are plenty of places nearby to sit and enjoy a glass of wine, but why not learn a bit more about local offerings and possibly discover a new favorite by checking out a free wine tasting?

This week’s Great Escape is “A Free Taste of the Wine Thief.” The Wine Thief is an award-winning retailer that has consistently been voted the best wine shop in New Haven.

Highlighting warm weather wines, the event will take place this Thursday, May 12, from 5 to 8 p.m. at Kelly’s Restaurant & Bar, 196 Crown St., New Haven. Weather permitting, guests can enjoy their wine on the patio. Otherwise, the event will take place indoors in Kelly’s private room.

You can sample more than a dozen different wines at the tasting and you can purchase select wines for up to 30 percent off.

The event is free, but hurry and RSVP by email to info@thewinethief.com.

The store has two locations, and the Wine Thief Downtown holds free in-store wine tastings every Friday night from 5 to 8 p.m.

There are many other in-store wine tastings in our area, as well. Vines Distinctive Wine & Liquor on Washington Avenue offers free wine tastings every Friday and Saturday from 4 to 8 p.m.

Stay tuned in the upcoming weeks for more wine-related events and Connecticut Wine Trail information.
