Patch 101 How To: Post an Event

Patch has always strived to be crossroads of the community.

And a huge part of that is telling you about all the great things going on: the festivals, outings for restless kids, school events you just can’t miss and much, much more.

Now, on the new Patch, creating and sharing an event on our calendar is even easier:

  1. Click on the green "Post" button on the top left of the page.
  2. Select "Event" from the pop-up menu that appears.
  3. On the next page, click "Choose a Group" to select the group that will show your Event post in its feed. After you have selected the group, enter your event name in the "Title" field, select date, time and location. Be as specific as you can.
  4. Enter a brief summary or information about your event in the "Description" field.
  5. Like what you see? Click the "Post Now" button to publish the event. It’s live!
  6. If you send a quick email with the URL to your friendly local editor they will do their best to publicize it far and wide, including on our social networks.

That’s it!

If you wish to post your event at a later time, attach files or make it easier to find, event posts offer you several options:
    • To attach photos or video to your post, you can click the "Add photos or videos" link below the text field to locate files from your computer to attach to the post. (Read more about "Uploading Media" by clicking here.)
    • To finish your event post later, click the down arrow on the "Post Now" button to save your event post as a draft. (Read more about "Managing Your Drafts" by clicking here.)
    • To publish a finished event post at a later time, click the "Advanced Options" link on the event page and select your desired date and time of publication in the fields that appear.
    • To make the event easier to find, you can choose up to three categories by clicking the check mark next to each category's name.
