9/11 Memorial Planned by Fire Department
Honors 20 North Haven firefighters who assisted in response to terrorist attacks in New York City.
North Haven has a special reason to memorialize the September 11 terrorist attacks on their 10th anniversary this year because twenty North Haven firefighters assisted in responding to the attacks in New York City on September 11, 2001.
Fire Chief Vincent Landisio announced that a memorial service that will include prayers and reflections will be held at North Haven Fire Headquarters at 8:30 a.m. on September 11.
Steve Hayden, a firefighter who was on duty in North Haven on the day of the attacks, said six North Haven firefighters, Mike Caruso, Alan Riggs, Dan Spetland and Matt Wirtz, and fourteen volunteers spent twenty four hours in New York helping at the World Trade Center.

"After the first day it was a recovery operation, not a rescue, so the out of town firefighters were no longer needed," he said.
