Board of Ethics to Discuss Marcarelli Appointment

Board of Ethics will vote to waive nepotism clause of Code of Ethics in regards to Deputy Fire Chief appointment.

The Board of Ethics will meet tonight at 6:00 p.m. in the Recreation Center to discuss the appointment of new Deputy Fire Chief David Marcarelli as it pertains to the nepotism clause laid out in North Haven's Code of Ethics.

Marcarelli, who was appointed in May, works with his brother, Pat Marcarelli, in the North Haven Fire Department.

Section 30.4.10 of the Code of Ethics states that no town official or employee can hire or supervise a member of his or her immediate family in the workplace unless the provision is waived by the Board.

Marcarelli will need to submit an application to the Board explaining why, in the words of the Code, that in the case of his appointment "the benefits to the town outweigh the likelihood of abuse."

The Board will then move into executive session to discuss the application, reserving the right to impose conditions it feels necessary to protect the spirit of the Code.
