CT Fire Academy to Graduate Local Recruits

Graduates hail from North Haven, and other nearby towns.

The CT Fire Academy will celebrate the graduation of its 48th class, composed of residents from North Haven, East Haven, Hamden and other nearby towns this Thursday in Meriden.

For 46 firefighters, hailing from 24 departments, the ceremony will mark the completion of a fourteen-week residential based training program covering professional skills and specialized training. 

Nicholas DeMaio of North Haven, currently serving in the Allington Fire Department in West Haven, will graduate alongside John Bysko, a Lyme native, who works for the North Haven FD.

According to a release issued by the Academy, graduates were extensively prepared to deal with a host of hazards and dangerous situations.

The core program components are to establish a strong desire and will for self-discipline, teamwork, company morale, orderliness and precision.  Additional course components include training in Hazardous Materials Mitigation, Weapons of Mass Destruction Preparedness, Confined Space Rescue, CPR Defibrillator and Technical Rescue.  The graduating recruits will be nationally certified to the level of Firefighter I and Firefighter II in addition to being awarded numerous certificates for specialized training.
