Update: 88-Year-Old Man Died from Accidental Drowning

Police: No indication of foul play; it appears he drove off a driveway into the water.

As suspected, the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner in Farmington determined that the 88-year-old man who was found floating near the docks of the Saugatuck Harbor Yacht Club on Saturday died from an accidental drowning.

They would not release his toxicology report to the media.

The victim was 88-year-old Richard A. Terry, of 44 Sachem Dr., North Haven.

Police responded to the yacht club at 8:15 a.m. and recovered Terry's body. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

Evidence at the scene and the ensuing investigation led police to determine Terry was driving a car and had an appointment at a property that backs up to the marina area of the club. After police visited the address where the meeting was to occur, they said it appeared Terry's car may have driven off a driveway and into the water.

Lt. Vincent Penna said in a news release Sunday morning that Terry's car was located by a police-fire dive team in 15 feet of water about 75 feet from shore.
