Fire Department Holds Grill Safety Day

Department teaches residents how to avoid grilling accidents as Memorial Day approaches.

The North Haven Fire Department will be holding its Annual Grill Safety Day this Friday, May 27, from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. at their headquarters on Broadway.

With summer approaching and grilling season warming up, the Department hopes to inform residents of the hazards involved in using both both gas and charcoal grills before widespread BBQ-ing begins in earnest.

In 2006, over 3,000 people were sent to the ER with grill-related injuries nationwide.

During Friday's event, local firefighters and representatives from a commercial gas company will give demonstrations and talk to attendees about proper grilling techniques.

Lunch—presumably grilled—will be provided.
