Patch's 'Most Wanted' Helps Nab Fugitive Wanted by North Haven Police

Two fugitives from justice — including a man wanted by the North Haven Police Department on larceny charges — have been apprehended by police after they were identified due to a "Clinton's Most Wanted" article published in February of 2011 on the Clinton Patch.

It all started with one article that listed the names, photos and descriptions of four men, all wanted for crimes (burglary, larceny, violation of probation) by the Clinton Police Department.

The first to be identified was 22-year old Trevor Hammar who fled to a small town outside of Saratoga, N.Y.

After meeting with an employee of the social services department of Saratoga County, that employee conducted an Internet search on Hammar's name. The Clinton Patch's "Most Wanted" article popped up.

In June of 2011, Hammar was identified, captured and arrested in Ballston Spa, N.Y. .

On Oct. 9 of this year, another arrest was made, this time for James Powers.

Powers was described in the earlier article as 50 years old (now 52), white, 5 feet 11 inches tall and weighing 265 pounds. He has brown hair and green eyes. Powers former address was listed as 24 Knapp Road in Norwalk. He was wanted for larceny in the first degree, larceny in the second degree, and failure to appear.

According to Detective Bryan Pellegrini of the Clinton Police Department, the story begins in West Roxbury, Mass., 125 miles from Clinton.

"A lady was concerned for her friend in West Roxbury because her friend is elderly and sick," stated Pellegrini. "This friend had a gentleman living with her named James Powers.  The lady was concerned because James is much, much younger than the friend."

The woman did some Internet research on Powers and came across an article on the Patch (Clinton’s Most Wanted) and realized that her friend was living with a wanted fugitive!

Pellegrini said she contacted the Boston Police Department and Powers was arrested on Oct. 8 on an outstanding warrant in Massachusetts.  The next day, Powers waived extradition and was brought back to Connecticut.

According to police, Powers had two outstanding warrants in Connecticut.  The first was for Failure to Appear with the Clinton Police Department on larceny charges which had a bond of $50,000. The second was with the North Haven Police Department for larceny charges with a $500,000 bond.

Powers was brought to court in Middletown on Oct. 10.
