Pedestrian Hit By Pickup Truck in North Haven Dies

The jogger struck by a pickup truck on Middletown Avenue on Wednesday afternoon, died Thursday night, according to police.

John Liquori, 20, of North Haven was pronounced dead at an area hospital shortly after 7 p.m., according to police.

Police said the investigation continues and the state's attorney will review the case for additional charges.

Earlier in the day, Theodore Spalding, 72, was arraigned in Meriden Superior Court on charges of second-degree assault with a motor vehicle and operating a motor vehicle while under the influence of alcohol. Spalding was released from custody after posting $50,000 bail.

Spalding was arrested at the scene on Wednesday after initial investigation led officers to suspect Spalding was intoxicated.

According to wtnh.com, court documents show Spalding told police he didn’t know what happened and that the runner had darted out in front of him.

Spalding declined to comment to a reporter while leaving Superior Court in Meriden. He is due back in court July 31.
