UPDATE: Police have identified the driver of the pickup truck as 72-year-old town resident Theodore Spalding.

According to a police press release, Spalding was southbound on Middletown Avenue when he collided with the victim who was jogging north on the side of the road.

Police said the initial investigation led officers to suspect Spalding was intoxicated, and "field sobriety tests were performed and Spalding was taken into custody," the release said. He faces charges including operating a motor vehicle while under the influence and second-degree assault with a motor vehicle, and was held in lieu of $100,000 bail. He is to be arraigned Superior Court in Meriden Thursday.
