Police Identify Suspect in Recent Burglaries, Including North Haven

Darien Police have an arrest warrant out for a suspect in the recent rash of burglaries of motor vehicles and homes in town, but police say the person has fled the area.

Sgt. Jeremiah P. Marron Jr. gave the following account of developments in the case in a late-afternoon news release (attached to this article):

Last week, Darien police searched a motor vehicle and found some possessions stolen from Darien residents in the recent residential and motor vehicle burglaries.

They also found items taken during burglaries of motor vehicles in Cheshire, North Haven, Meriden, and from a residential burglary in Wilton.

On Tuesday, more Darien possessions from the same rash of burglaries were found during the search of a home in Trumbull, along with some items stolen in Trumbull burglaries.

Darien detectives and the Southwest Regional Emergency Response Team helped Trumbull police execute the search warrant.

Lt. Bussell of the Darien Police Detective Division indicated that additional arrests are expected as the investigation continues.

"It also has been determined that the individuals responsible for these crimes are not part of a 'gang from the Bronx' which was rumored earlier," Marron wrote in the news release.

An arrest warrant charges the suspect with second-degree burglary, third-degree burglary, credit card theft and illegal use of a credit card, stemming from the burglary of a home and motor vehicle in the Noroton Heights section of town.

One distinctive factor in the burglaries was that the thief never had to pick a lock, smash a window or otherwise break into a car or building—none of the victims had not locked car or, in some cases, garage or even house doors.
