Tanker Roll-Over Halts Traffic on I-91 Between Wallingford and North Haven

Multiple agencies en route to scene.

UPDATE @ 2:27 p.m.: No entrapment in I-91 roll-over, authorities report. Driver extricated himself from the vehicle. Foam operation in progress. Fire Department excercising caution.

A tanker carrying gasoline crashed and rolled over around 1:00 p.m. this afternoon between exits 12 and 13 on I-91.

While details on injuries have not yet been released, both sides of the highway have been closed, causing severe delays in both directions.

Authorities said that the tanker was punctured in the crash, and at least some gasoline spilled.

Hazmat, ambulance, and fire teams have been sent to the scene. The Connecticut Department of Environmental Protection is also en route.

Southbound drivers have been redirected off the highway at exit 13 and back on at exit 11. Northbound drivers are taking detours from exit 12 to exit 13. Route 5 in Wallingford is reported to be heavily congested due to traffic bypassing the accident.

Traffic is currently at a standstill from exit 10 to exit 14
