Anthem BC-BS Receives High Marks from Members

North Haven health insurance carrier ranked highly in state-issued Consumer Report Card.

The Consumer Report Card on Health Insurance Carriers in Connecticut, issued yesterday by the Connecticut Insurance Department (CID), reports a high level of customer satisfaction with the North Haven-based Anthem Blue Cross-Blue Shield.

In a survey asking enrolled members of various state HMO's to rate their plans on a scale of 1-10, 28% of Anthem respondents awarded their carrier the best possible score, a significantly higher percentage than any other carrier in the poll. Over 75% gave Anthem a score of 8 or above.

Furthermore, 53% of Anthem respondents said that they were "Always satisfied" with their carrier's prescription drug coverage, again the highest percentage of the HMO's surveyed.

Anthem's strong showing amongst customers extended to the portion of the survey ranking Indemnity Managed Care Organizations—Anthem offers both HMO and Indemnity MCO plans—with close to 30% of respondents awarding the carrier a rank of 10, or "best possible". 74% gave the company an 8 or higher.

The Report Card also contains data assessing certain quality measures at each carrier, such as screenings for certain cancers, immunizations, and prenatal care.
