New Sidewalks for Skiff Street

The town is moving forward with a grant from the state to start the Skiff Street refurbishment project.

 

Sidewalks on Skiff Street from Van Rose Drive to Whitney Avenue are going to get a makeover this summer. 

North Haven received a $95,370 Small Town Economic Assistance Program (STEAP) grant through the State's Office of Policy and Management (OPM) and the Department of Public Works has pledged $10,000 worth of 'work in kind services' to aid the project.

The Department of Public Works is looking to advertise the project for bidding in April, host a formal bid opening in May, and begins construction in June or July of this year. 

The project will entail: construction stakeout, sitepreparation and demolition, removal of tree stumps, installation of sub base and concrete sidewalk,loam and seed, traffic protection and demobilization.

“The new sidewalk proposed for both sides of Skiff Street from Van Rose Drive to Whitney Avenue will greatly benefit all residents who travel along this route daily, allowing for a safer commute to and from work or shopping," said First Selectman, Michael J. Freda.

“We previously had applied for this grant and were very excited to learn of the award of this infrastructure project," said Freda. "Further, there will be no outlay of Capital dollars for the project by the Town of North Haven's residents."
