North Haven Unemployment Drops to 7.6%

Town and state saw significant drops in unemployment last month, CTDOL reports.

According to numbers released by the CT Department of Labor at the end of last week, North Haven's unemployment rate decreased to 7.6% in September, down from 8.5% the month before. 

The state as a whole saw dips in jobless figures, going from 9% to 8.4% from August to September. 

Of North Haven's 13,173-strong labor force, 996—or about one in thirteen working age adults—were unemployed at the time CTDOL's latest figures were compiled.

Unemployment rates for other nearby towns are as follows:

  • Bethany: 5.7%
  • Branford: 7.3%
  • Cheshire: 6.9%
  • East Haven: 9.6%
  • Hamden: 8.5%
  • North Branford: 7.2%
  • Orange: 6.6%
  • Stratford: 9.5%
  • Wallingford: 7.4%
  • West Haven: 6.2%
  • Woodbridge: 5.4%

Unemployment for metropolitan New Haven remains well above the state average at 12.9%, down from 13.6% last month. Hartford retains the highest jobless percentage in the state at 15.6%.
