Polls Open for Special Elections

East Haven, Cheshire, other CT towns holding special elections today.

Eighteen CT towns will be holding special elections today to fill vacant seats in the general assembly. Nine seats are open, three in the State Senate and six in the House of Representatives, with the majority of the vacancies caused by Governor Dannel P. Malloy's appointment of legislators to his administration following the November election.

Democrat , 26 years old and the son of former probate judge Mike Albis, is contending with Republican Linda Monaco, a lawyer, for the East Haven GA seat vacated by Democrat Mike Lawlor. Check in with Editor Sharon Bass today for developments in the race.

In , Meriden, Middlefield, and Middletown, Democrat Thomas Gaffey's Senate seat is up for grabs between two Meriden Board of Education members, Democrat Thomas Bruenn and Republican Len Suzio. Suzio ran twice against Gaffey in the past, falling 5000 votes short of his opponent this November. Meanwhile, Bruenn received the highest number of votes when he ran for Meriden's Board of Education in 2007. Editor Leslie Hutchinson will be posting updates on the race throughout the day.
