The North Haven Democratic and Republican Town committees will hold meetings this week to nominate candidates for town offices for elections to be held Nov. 8.
The Democrats will meet Tuesday, July 19, at 7 p.m. at the . The Republicans' meeting is scheduled for Thursday, July 21, at 7 p.m. at the , 201 Washington Ave.
Republican First Selectman Michael Freda, Second Selectman Timothy Doheny, Town Clerk/Tax Collector J. Stacey Yarbrough and Town Treasure Laurie Jean Hannon are all seeking reelection.
North Haven Democratic Town Chairman Peter Criscuolo said the party will nominate candidates, but wouldn’t name them today (July 18). “They want their names kept until tomorrow night, but the entire slate will be nominated tomorrow,” he said.
The third selectman isn’t elected; the position is awarded to the third highest vote-getter in the first selectman race. The current third selectman is Stephen Fontana.
The parties will also nominate candidates for three spots on the Board of Finance; three full spots on the Board of Education for six-year terms, one spot on the Board of Education for a two-year term; three spots for the Board of Assessment Appeals; three spots for Planning & Zoning Commission; two spots for the Zoning Board of Appeals, three Zoning Board of Appeals alternates; two spots on the police commission; and two fire commissioners.
An Independent, Howard Cappetta, will also run for fire commissioner.
