Romney Wins in North Haven, Gingrich Last: 11% Turnout

With low turnout, voters still preferred Rick Santorum, who was no longer in the race, to Newt Gingrich.

Mitt Romney was the favorite in Connecticut with 68 percent of the vote for the Republican presidential primary. He performed similarly in North Haven, with 66 percent of the 424 votes cast.

Ron Paul finished second with 17 percent. Rick Santorum who dropped out of the race earlier this month, still managed to beat Newt Gingrich with 9 percent compared to 6 percent.  Seven voters checked off “uncommitted” at the polling place.

“I’m not putting words in anyone’s mouth and this based on conversations we heard from people, I think that some people just assumed the race had already been won so they just weren’t coming out,” said Laurie Brangi, the Republican Registrar of Voters for North Haven.
