Taxes, State Budget Key Points in Fasano and Yaccarino Town Hall

The State Senator and Representative will hold a Town Hall meeting at the library on March 28.

State Senator Len Fasano (R-34) and State Representative Dave Yaccarino (R-87) will hold a Town Hall meeting in the North Haven Memorial Library on March 28 focusing on the state budget and its potential impact on Connecticut families.

Both legislators, while acknowledging the difficulty in cutting back state programs and services, have been critical of Governor Malloy's budget, citing rising taxes as a primary concern.

“I applaud the governor for seeking $2 billion in concessions from state employees and I wish him success but we still need to keep an eye on cutting spending,” said Fasano in a statement issued today. “Downsizing government means more than just the elimination of 150-jobs among a 46,000 person work force.  We need to privatize services and sell off state assets if we really want to make a dent in our spending.”

Yaccarino added that the proposed tax increases will hurt middle class families, saying: "Connecticut families are already struggling in this economy and the Governor’s proposal doesn’t go far enough with spending cuts before raising taxes on basic necessities. North Haven families have had to tighten their belts and do more with less; it’s time for the state to do the same.”

Fasano and Yaccarino are inviting North Haven residents to voice their questions about the budget at the meeting, but it is difficult to say how partisan the two public officials' responses will be in light of their public stances on the state's finances.
