Town Asks for Input to Preserve Post Office

Freda working to keep Post Office open in North Haven.

With the United States Postal Service's debt climbing, the future of North Haven's bureau, currently located on Washington Avenue, may be in jeopardy.

According to a release issued by the First Selectman today, a public session will be held at the Recreation Center on October 25 from 6:30 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. to gauge residents' interest in keeping the North Haven branch of the USPS open.

The Town has been in discussions with the Post Office since 2010 to try and find a new location for the bureau. Given the financial predicament of the agency, however, cutbacks in service seem imminent.

Without popular support, Freda noted, the Post Office may be forced to shutter its North Haven branch, forcing residents to travel to nearby towns for service.

The Town highly recommends citizens attend this hearing because without support for the local post office location here in Town, the Post Office will assume that there is no interest here in retaining the site
